Introducing the Hub
103,483 public records for PFAS, petroleum hydrocarbons and military site contamination across 63 states, provinces and territories, with open and closed sites and the cleanup standard each regulator applies.
Events trackedPlus 16,170 release events reported across the United States and Canada in the last 12 months, spills, pipeline and rail incidents, fires and AFFF discharges, updated to 2026-08-16.
A site that won't close. A stockpile that keeps growing. A contaminant the next regulation will name. A liability that compounds while options narrow.
Nelson Environmental Remediation exists to eliminate the risk.
Permanent contaminant destruction and recovery at industrial scale is our business. A cleaner, safer tomorrow for generations to come is our mission.
We eliminate contaminants at the source and turn waste into value. With the world's largest mobile thermal remediation fleet, we deploy proven technologies at scale anywhere.

Nelson's next-generation mobile thermal desorption system will be evaluated within a built-to-purpose NATO PFAS Treatment Technology Test Bed, generating performance data to advance practical, permanent solutions to one of the most persistent contamination challenges facing defence, industry, and communities today.
“In a first for Nelson, our technology has been selected for a NATO test bed to help address the global issue of PFAS contamination.”
Nelson's leading edge thermal desorption technology design-built in Vietnam to treat dioxin-contaminated soil at a former US airbase. Project currently in development; on-site assembly underway.
Live Updates from the Field
Baghouse hoppers and support structure moving into place. Vietnam, April 28, 2026.
First-of-its-kind 60-tonne thermal trial for a major Canadian municipality in 2026. Nelson's process destroys PFAS during treatment and converts wastewater biosolids into a stable, high-value residual carbon product, replacing landfill and land-application liability with a recoverable resource.
An historic oil and gas wellsite and drilling-waste disposal area in Alberta, treated on-site with Nelson's RS20 thermal desorption system. BTEX, benzene, toluene, and F2/F3 hydrocarbons are permanently driven off the soil, with burners running on recycled used oil to displace virgin fuel.
Two international equipment mobilizations from Alberta via Oakland, California, treating 22,400 tons of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil across the 2021 and 2024 campaigns at a former WWII-era fuel storage site. Delivered as a subcontractor to ERRG, the general contractor, serving the US Army Corps of Engineers, which performed the engineering.
One of the largest cleanups in US history. 2.4 million tons of soil moved following a major pipeline break. 1.2 million tons of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination permanently destroyed.
140,000 tonnes of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil remediated from a legacy fuel retail site on First Nations land. Site fully restored for community redevelopment.
In a Canadian first, 60,000 tonnes of material handled and 24,000 tonnes of PCB soil destroyed on site at a remote gold mine in Ontario.
A core expertise, we help turn mill scale back into useable products including new steel.
High-temperature oxidative treatment converting biosolids into stable carbon product. PFAS destroyed, pathogens eliminated, volume significantly reduced.
25,000 tons of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil remediated from a legacy fuel storage brownfield in Honolulu. Site successfully redeveloped for commercial use.

Common Questions
We work within every applicable regulatory framework and design our documentation to meet or exceed compliance requirements. Our team has over 30 years of experience navigating environmental regulations across multiple jurisdictions and continents.
Yes. Our mobile high-temperature oxidation systems apply an oxidative process to treat biosolids, sewage sludge, and organic industrial waste on-site. The reaction eliminates pathogens, destroys PFAS and other persistent contaminants, and achieves significant volume reduction, converting liability into stabilized, verifiable outputs without the need for landfill disposal.
We do. Bentonite clay and drilling muds present unique challenges due to their moisture content and binding properties. Our thermal systems are engineered to process these materials efficiently, separating contaminants from the clay matrix and reducing volumes for safe reuse or disposal, all performed on-site to eliminate transport risk.

Our Direct Fire Thermal Desorption and Indirect Thermal Desorption technologies provide precise, high-efficiency contaminant destruction, supported by mobile units built for large-scale treatment of soil, tailings, and industrial byproducts.
High-temperature systems that permanently break the molecular bonds of PFAS and persistent synthetic compounds. Engineered for sites where compliance is critical.
High-temperature oxidative processing for municipal and industrial biosolids. Pathogens eliminated, PFAS destroyed, and volume significantly reduced.
Mobile high-temperature treatment of fly ash and related industrial residues. Geared toward construction-grade output streams including cement, concrete, and bridge infrastructure.
Modular pyrolysis systems convert end-of-life tires into recoverable outputs through controlled oxygen-free heating. Eliminates long-term stockpile liability.Warren Nelson on mobile tire pyrolysisHard problems, solved on-site by the people who built the equipment.3 min 29 sec
Targeted subsurface treatment through injection and controlled methods for groundwater and difficult-access contamination. Deployed where excavation is not feasible.
Contaminant destruction with controlled material recovery: hydrocarbons for reuse, biochar from biosolids, volatile compounds from catalysts and filter media.
Our mobile high-temperature systems permanently destroy hydrocarbons, PAHs, VOCs, and PFAS at the molecular level. We also process and convert other complex waste streams: biosolids and organic waste through oxidative treatment, end-of-life tires through oxygen-free pyrolysis, and fly ash and mixed industrial residues through engineered thermal stabilization. We don't relocate or encapsulate. We break the contaminant down at the source, producing verified, defensible results.
Traditional remediation typically involves excavation, transport, and off-site disposal, adding cost, liability, and carbon. Nelson deploys self-contained thermal systems directly to your site. We eliminate contaminants where they exist, reducing timelines, transport risk, and long-term exposure.
It means the target contaminant is broken down at the molecular level and cannot reform as the original compound. Our systems operate at temperatures and retention times that irreversibly break the molecular bonds of organic contaminants like hydrocarbons, PFAS, PAHs, and VOCs. Engineered controls (including high-temperature secondary oxidation and rapid quench cooling through the de novo synthesis window) prevent the reformation of harmful byproducts such as dioxins and furans. Continuous emissions monitoring and pre/post-treatment sampling verify destruction to regulatory thresholds. The contaminant is destroyed at the source. Not moved, not diluted, not contained.
Yes. Our fleet is designed for exactly that. We operate in Arctic conditions, dense industrial sites, island locations, and active military installations. Our systems are modular, self-powered, and road-transportable, purpose-built for sites where conventional solutions can't reach.
Every project includes pre- and post-treatment sampling, continuous process monitoring, and third-party validated data. Verification protocols are tailored to the regulatory framework of each jurisdiction and the specific material being processed; sampling methods, acceptance thresholds, and reporting formats vary by location and contaminant type. Our documentation is designed to withstand regulatory review, ownership transfer, and future scrutiny in any jurisdiction we operate in. We deliver defensible proof, not just progress reports.
It depends on volume, contaminant type, and the treatment approach selected: mobile thermal processing, in-situ remediation, or a combination. Our mobilization is measured in weeks, not months. Once deployed, our systems process material continuously. Most projects are completed significantly faster than traditional dig-and-haul alternatives.
