Nelson to present 140,000-tonne Alberta remediation project at RemTech 2026

Edmonton environmental remediation company will share results from major Louis Bull First Nation project at national industry gathering in Banff

EDMONTON, AB, October 6, 2026. Nelson Environmental Remediation will present the results of a major Alberta remediation project at RemTech 2026 in Banff, where industry leaders from across Canada will gather to examine advances and significant projects in contaminated-site remediation.

Nelson President Darryl Nelson will participate in “Top Remediation Projects: The biggest cleanup projects across Canada,” sharing the story of the Louis Bull First Nation remediation project in Alberta.

The project involved approximately 140,000 tonnes of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil, which Nelson treated to CCME criteria employing onsite thermal desorption remediation.

Rather than hauling the soil offsite, Nelson remediated the soil onsite with thermal desorption, enhancing the geotechnical quality for land redevelopment. Soil processing occurred during winter months, delivering warm clean soil for site restoration and achieving compaction specifications unattainable with other remediation methods, accelerating the construction schedule of the Bear Hills Casino.

“The project celebrated entering our 4th decade delivering large-scale sustainable remediation technology onsite achieving preservation of soil for highest value land reuse,” said Darryl Nelson, President of Nelson Environmental Remediation. “The Louis Bull project demonstrated the many advantages of thermal desorption technology delivered onsite.”

RemTech 2026 takes place October 14–16 at the Fairmont Banff Springs in Banff, Alberta. Organized by the Environmental Services Association of Alberta, the annual symposium brings together environmental professionals, regulators, researchers and technology providers working in soil and groundwater remediation.

Nelson Environmental Remediation will also be exhibiting at the conference.
