Environmental remediation addresses contamination in soil, groundwater or other affected material. A useful scope starts with characterization and cleanup objectives, then connects the suitable treatment methods, material destinations and verification requirements. One site may need several approaches.
For suitable excavated petroleum-, diesel- and other organic-contaminated soil, mobile thermal desorption separates contaminants from the soil matrix. Feed preparation, the off-gas train and confirmation sampling are defined for the actual material and project criteria.
Where contamination remains below ground, treatment selection considers contaminant chemistry, permeability, groundwater flow and access. Capabilities include soil vapour extraction, air sparging, remedial injection and pump-and-treat systems where suitable.
In-situ and groundwater capabilities
Excavation, segregation, loading, transport, treatment, permitted disposal and restoration may sit within one remediation plan. Define responsibilities and verify receiving-facility acceptance for each stream before material moves.
Contaminated soil disposal checklist
Petroleum hydrocarbons, BTEX, PAHs and other organic contaminants require assessment against the complete material profile. Co-contaminants, moisture, debris and residual streams can change the treatment plan. Heavy metals require their own management approach; they are not destroyed by thermal desorption.
Explore the hydrocarbon treatment profile, PCB guidance and contaminant library for material-specific questions.
PFAS work remains pilot-validated and includes participation in the NATO STO test bed. This page does not present PFAS destruction as a generally available commercial treatment service.
Mobile thermal fleet configurations and the thermal desorption process support equipment and treatment planning.
Nelson’s documented US work includes the Tioga pipeline spill in North Dakota and a fuel-storage brownfield in Honolulu. These records show actual applications, not a performance guarantee for a different site. US projects require review of the applicable federal, state and local requirements, approvals and receiving conditions.

Alberta headquarters · North American experience
Acheson, west of Edmonton, is Nelson’s headquarters and equipment staging base. Alberta project planning connects Tier 1 and Tier 2 objectives, oilfield waste requirements and verification with the actual soil stream and site constraints.
Read the Alberta Tier 1 and Tier 2 guide and the Bear Hills project record on Louis Bull First Nation land.
Provincial requirements differ. Use the existing regional guides for local assessment, material management and documentation questions. Treatment results alone do not establish regulatory closure or certificate eligibility.

Ask for relevant project experience, a clear basis for technology selection and a complete scope. Compare how each proposal handles characterization gaps, material variability, residuals, confirmation sampling and approvals.
Available assessments and laboratory results linked to sample locations.
Estimated material quantity, soil conditions and known groundwater impacts.
Site access, utilities, working areas and intended cleanup objectives.
Responsibility for excavation, treatment, disposal, restoration and final reporting.
Use the soil remediation proposal preparation guide or environmental remediation RFP guide to prepare the discussion. Nelson provides site-specific proposals rather than public prices or generic project-duration promises.
